Job Title : Program and Communication Officer
1 . Advance Family Planning (AFP): Is an evidence-based advocacy initiative that focuses on promoting political commitment for quality family planning programs that is reflected in the increased allocation of resources especially from own source . AFP’s second phase is a five-year initiative (2013-2017) endeavors to contribute to the achievement of the vision of the July 2012 London Summit on Family Planning commonly known as the Family Planning 2020 Vision (FP2020). That vision is to enable at least 120 million new women and girls in some of the world’s poorest countries to use contraceptive information , services , and supplies without coercion or discrimination by the year 2020 .
HDT in collaboration with AFP Tanzania and UNA has been implementing the project at both national and sub-national levels since its inception . After the completion of the first phase of AFP in 2012 , HDT expanded its advocacy interventions into new districts in the Lake and Western Zones . This year advocacy shall focus on the following : Revisions of procurement regulations to fast-track procurement of life-saving drugs including contraceptives , 45 LGAs in 7 regions allocate at least 5% of their health budgets for family planning , and 5 family planning champions in each of 5 Districts in the lake zone are empowered to accelerate allocations for family planning in their LGAs .
2 . Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP): MCSP is a global cooperative agreement funded by the U.S . Agency for International Development (USAID to introduce and support high-impact health interventions in 24 priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable child and maternal deaths (EPCMD) within a generation .
In Tanzania , MCSP is a 3-year program working with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) and in-country partners to expand access to quality reproductive , maternal , newborn and child health (RMNCH) services towards achieving its RMNCH targets . In line with Tanzania’s goals , MCSP focuses on increasing the utilization of quality health services across the continuum of care (from the hospital to the community) in Kagera and Mara regions . In these two regions , MCSP is working with the MoHSW , Regional Health Management Teams (RHMTs) and Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs) to improve the coverage and quality of RMNCH services . MCSP is also supporting health systems strengthening , prevention of malaria in pregnancy , prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV , and health information systems .

As a result of internal review and reflection , the organization has renamed its self from Human Development Trust into Health & Development Trust .
This change goes hand in hand with more focusing on its interventions from disease-focused to client-focused . The objective of the organization is to promote health rights as a priority for all Tanzanians including vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in society . With this objective , HDT is committed to contributing to the broader national health and development strategies in promoting economic growth and reducing poverty .
