Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization that endeavours to provide fistula treatment and quality maternity care for all marginalized women throughout Tanzania. Maternity Africa operates from its base at Kivulini Maternity Centre outside the city of Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

Medical Doctor (MD)

Position: Medical Doctor (MD)
Reporting Line: Medical Officer In-charge.
Work Station: Kivulini Maternity Centre, Arusha.

About the role.
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Medical Doctor to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, adhering to the highest medical standards, ethical guidelines and Tanzanian medical regulations.

The best suitable candidate for this role must be vastly technical, compassionate and experienced in providing maternal/obstetric care and able to work on a flexible schedule of night duties.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide an opinion and assist in management of any outpatients or inpatients referred for review by the midwifery team
  • Engage in teaching ward rounds.
  • Attend all obstetric emergencies when on duty/on call and plan ongoing management of care.
  • Perform assisted deliveries and caesarean section and otherwise assist the midwifery team in prevention and management of complications of pregnancy and labour. • Attend and review all patients with early pregnancy complications and be responsible for planning and implementing medical/surgical management.
  • Mentor and support all members of the multi-disciplinary team in a manner in which shared goals, shared knowledge and mutual respect are emphasised.
  • To assist during fistula camps – with screening of patients, intraoperative and post operative care.
  • Perform on-call duties including weekends and nights as per Kivulini Maternity Centre roster.
  • Ensure all medical documentation is filled correctly and on time.
  • Be involved in clinical governance including timely reporting and reviewing of clinical incidents.

Qualifications and certifications, Experience and Skills required

  • Qualification in Medical Doctor (MD) degree from an accredited university. • Licensure/Certification:

– Valid medical practicing license in Tanzania.
– Registration Certificate from Medical Council of Tanganyika Experience: 5 years of experience as a practicing physician preferred. (At-least 3 years experience in obstetric – e.g., experience in conducting caesarean sections, difficult deliveries, handling obstetric emergencies, performing minor obstetric repairs and fistula screening)

Skills:
– Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient-centered skills.
– Strong diagnostic and clinical judgment skills.
– Ability to provide kind and compassionate care to vulnerable marginalized women. – Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
– Strong organizational and time-management skills.
– Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
– Knowledge in Tanzania Medical Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Nurse-midwife (ANO/NO)

What is this role about?
We love and value our patients and strive to provide the best care and outcomes, hence this role involves providing high standard maternal nursing care to vulnerable pregnant women during antenatal care, delivery, postnatal care and while providing birth injuries treatment/surgeries i.e. Fistula surgeries. The best fit for this role should showcase professionalism in midwifery and management of obstetric emergencies, exhibit respect, compassion and kindness while interacting with the women during care. Key Responsibilities

  • Professional development workshops
  • Providing prenatal and postpartum care for pregnant women.
  • Tending to patients and newborns during labor and delivery.
  • Performing routine gynaecological care, including examinations.

  • Maintaining patient medical records
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals and referring patients to specialists when necessary
  • Testing for and diagnosing various medical conditions
  • Providing emotional support for expectant and new mothers
  • Administering vaccinations to children under 5 years.
  • Providing all types of family planning methods to mothers.
  • Writing records, tutoring student midwives, identifying high-risk pregnancies
  • Monitoring and administering medication, injections and intravenous infusions during labour
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, skills and Competencies Requirements

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery
  • Nursing and Midwifery registration certificates from TNMC.
  • A valid nurse practising license.
  • 3 year’s minimum working experience preferably in labour ward, RCH and operating theatre.
  • Competent in managing Obstetric emergencies.
  • Great interpersonal skills to develop professional relationships with patients
  • Must have Microsoft office skills
  • Must be able to practice compassionate care, kindness and love to patients.
  • onversant with both written and spoken English and Kiswahili for communication skills to help patients understand their options and potential implications.
  • Collaborative/team work skills to work with other medical care providers
