Who are we?
Maternity Africa is a Christian-based not-for-profit organization that endeavours to provide fistula treatment and quality maternity care for all marginalized women throughout Tanzania. We do this through clinical excellence and in the example of displaying love, kindness and compassion indiscriminatory to all our patients accessing care.

Maternity Africa operates from its base at Kivulini Maternity Centre outside the city of Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

What is this role about?
We love and value our patients and strive to provide the best care and outcomes, hence this role involves providing high standard maternal nursing care to vulnerable pregnant women during antenatal care, delivery, postnatal care and while providing birth injuries treatment/surgeries i.e. Fistula surgeries. The best fit for this role should showcase professionalism in midwifery and management of obstetric emergencies, exhibit respect, compassion and kindness while interacting with the women during care. Also, this role is best fitted for continuous learning by providing tremendous skill and career development opportunities provided by both local and international mentors and training opportunities.

How you will help make a difference with the rest of the team and the organization.

  • Providing prenatal and postpartum care for pregnant women.
  • Tending to patients and newborns during labor and delivery.
  • Performing routine gynaecological care, including examinations.
  • Educating patients on parenting and family planning
  • Maintaining patient medical records
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals and referring patients to specialists when necessary
  • Testing for and diagnosing various medical conditions
  • Providing emotional support for expectant and new mothers
  • Administering vaccinations to children under 5 years.
  • Providing all types of family planning methods to mothers.
  • Writing records, tutoring student midwives, identifying high-risk pregnancies
  • Monitoring and administering medication, injections and intravenous infusions during labour
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, skills and Competencies Requirements

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery
  • Nursing and Midwifery registration certificates from TNMC.
  • A valid nursing practising license.
  • 3 year’s minimum working experience in the labour ward, RCH and operating theatre.
  • Competent in managing Obstetric emergencies.
  • Great interpersonal skills to develop professional relationships with patients
  • Must have Microsoft office skills
  • Must be able to practice compassionate care, kindness and love to patients.
  • Conversant with both written and spoken English and Kiswahili for communication skills to help patients understand their options and potential implications.
  • Collaborative/team work skills to work with other medical care providers

About the role.
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Hospital Laundry Attendant to join our patients care team. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. In this role, you will be responsible for the collection, sorting, washing, drying, pressing/ironing, folding, and distribution of hospital linens and staff uniforms. You will also maintain the cleanliness and organization of the laundry room, equipment and machinery.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Collect and sort soiled linens from patient rooms and other areas of the hospital.
  • Operate industrial washing machines and dryers.
  • Wash, maintain and perform minor repairs on employees’ uniforms.
  • Fold and stack clean linens.
  • Distribute clean linens to patient rooms and other areas of the hospital.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the laundry room and drying areas.
  • Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Human Resources Assistant

Position: Human Resources Assistant
Reporting Line: Human Resources Manager
Work Station: Arusha.

About the role.
Provides general support to employees, essential for the smooth running of day-to-day HR operations and administrative tasks. Improving continuity, efficiency and effectiveness of HR processes and responsibilities.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day operational and administrative tasks in Human Resources.
  • Supervision of work/activities in the departments under Human Resources.
  • Conduct reference checks on new employees and volunteers.
  • Prepare employment contracts upon appointment of staff and maintain an effective contract planning mechanism, ensuring staff are issued with probation confirmations as and when they fall due, and/or extension of probation period after consultation with employee Line Manager.
  • Ensure all staff conduct exit interviews. Follow up on staff final dues ensuring they are paid correctly in the shortest time possible.
  • Assist in conducting employee’s surveys on various aspect of employment and job satisfaction.
  • Ensure all Kivulini resources allocated to the employee including keys and uniforms are returned and recorded.
  • Follow up to ensure that orientation plans and processes for all new staff occur, and documents are retained in the employees’ files.
  • Ensure correct work permits and visas are obtained in a timely fashion for foreign employees/ volunteers and that these are kept up to date.
  • Maintain an up-to-date filing system that enables efficient retrieval, reference and reporting: Personnel, Recruitment files etc.
  • Monitor staff leave status, ensuring regular updating of the leave database and that monthly status reports are sent out to staff via Finance and payroll.
  • Ensure line managers are informed of when employees’ contracts are due for renewal/expiry, and issue staff notices or renewals as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the Human Resource database system is appropriately updated and utilized in a timely and accurate manner. This includes setting up new starters, terminating leavers, amending personal details, updating contract information, inputting performance ratings, training information and staff absence.
  • Maintain confidentiality in respect of all staff records whether manual or computer maintained and ensure that all records are held securely.
  • Liaise with the IT Department for technical support and updates regarding the HR database Training.
  • Pull reports on employee attendance, review and report to line managers on observed trends and inconsistences on employees’ attendance.
  • Review all monthly rosters of the organization to ensure they are within the required work/employment guidelines and are adjusted to reflect the necessary changes.
  • Work in collaboration with the HR Manager to creatively, innovatively, effectively and efficiently improve Human Resources and administrational processes, strategies and ideas.

Qualifications and certifications, Experience and Skills required.

  • A Diploma in Human Resources Management or Public Administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Proactive and commendable organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian employment laws and guideline.
  • Eager and willing to learn
